American Legion Post 182 Auxiliary will have its annual card party at 7 p.m. Monday at the Arma American Legion Hall.
The card party will be open to the public, and those attending are asked to bring a gift for the American Legion Auxiliary Christmas Gift Shop at the Kansas Veterans Home, Winfield.
Gifts should be something suitable for a veteran to give to a family member, and items are needed for men and women, children and infants. No used merchandise will be accepted, and gifts should not be wrapped.
Suitable gifts for women include toilet articles and cologne, preferably in plastic bottles, costume jewelry and watches, billfolds and purses, bath and kitchen towel sets, pillow cases, throw pillows, shawls, scarves, gloves, aprons, stationary, house socks/anklets and small appliances such as hair dryers, curling irons and hand mixers or toasters.
Items for men include dress, casual or flannel shirts, socks, dress gloves, leather billfolds, cologne and toilet articles in sets, sweatshirts, sweaters, flashlights, pen and pencil sets, watches, small tool kits, stocking hats and scarves.
Children’s items include gloves, hats, scarves, socks, billfolds, model kits, dolls for girls or cars and trucks for boys, sporting equipment, games, sweatshirts, sweaters, books, watches and stuffed animals. Gifts for infants could include clothing, blankets, mittens, knit hats, stuffed animals and age-appropriate toys.
Auxiliary members are asked to bring snacks for refreshments. Anyone unable to attend the party but wishing to make a donation for the veterans gift shop may contact Steffie Peternell, auxiliary president.
