Recent guests of Harriett and Jack Corporon in their Brooklyn, N.Y., home were her cousin, Robert Sloan, and his son, from San Francisco. The guests were attending a conference on futurism. During the first part of November, Corporon’s cousin, Nan Corporon and Doreen Diabiago traveled from Baltimore, Md., to New York and visited for a weekend after attending many things of interest to them in the city.
Jack Girard, 11, grandson of Patty and Gary Peterson, is back in school at Joplin after a bout of H1N1 flu. His parents are Kristin and Steve Girard. .
Last month Gary Peterson’s cousin, Mac Steele, Salina, visited in Arcadia. He, Herman Tyler and Peterson attended the Chicken ‘n Pickin Music show in Oklahoma.
Galloway and Anne-Marie Belt, Devon, have been in Arcadia for a week doing carpentry and painting jobs. They are seeking more handyman and yard work jobs.
Arcadia Christian Church congregation had their monthly dinner Nov. 1, with 20 at the fellowship following morning services. Guests were Bob Prettyman, rural Arcadia, and Scott Long, Liberal, Mo. Young people enjoying play time after dinner were Cheyenne Melon, Josie Bryant, Andy Lechliter and his sister, Stephanie. Vera Parrish presented a decorated birthday cake to her son and his wife, Wayne and Christie Parrish. Each will celebrate birthdays this month. Bill Watt, Independence, Mo., and Tom Watt, Lee’s Summit, Mo., went to see their brother, Delton Watt Jr., Friday in Fayette, Mo. They had planned to play golf with Delton Watt’s pastor and friends,, but the weather was not suitable. While there overnight, the three Watt brothers visited by telephone with their mother, Mae Watt, in Arcadia. After heading for home, the visitors stopped by the jail where Delton Watt Jr. cooks for the inmates.
Mike and Nancy Sisney, Girard, brought their three grandchildren, Evan, Aydin and Marci Sisney, to visit their great-grandmother, Helen Sisney, Sunday afternoon in Arcadia. Their parents are Missy and Mike Sisney. She is a grade school teacher in Arma, and he is a county patrolman.
A dinner will be held from 11:30 a.m. until sold out on Nov. 8 in the Arcadia Community Center to raise funds to bring Santa Claus to town. Noodles, potatoes, vegetable, beverages and dessert will be available for a minimum $5 donation. Donations of dessert are needed.
A gospel sing will be held Nov. 7 at the Arcadia Community Center, and the Cato group will meet at the center on Nov. 24. Fall Cato tour will be at 9:30 a.m. Nov. 7.
Karen Rizley Sprenkle, formerly of Arcadia and now living in Stark City, Mo., recently visited her daughter, Tracey Stephens and family, in Mountain Home, Idaho. She was traveling with other relatives from Sheldon, Mo.
Ellen Bowker, sister of Ruth Holland, recently celebrated her 91st birthday with friends. A former Arcadia resident, Holland now lives in Liberal, Mo., and visits her sister often in Sheldon, Mo.
