PITTSBURG — It’s not an event for “wimps or whiners,” according to a PPRD press release.
The Pittsburg Parks and Recreation Department and Pittsburg Disc Golf Club will host the ninth annual Pitt Disc Golf Ice Bowl at Lincoln Park on Feb. 18. The 18-hole event usually has cold weather and benefits Wesley House’s food pantry.
“It’s awesome to know that we have so much support from the city and the community,” Wesley House Executive Director and Pastor Marcee Binder said. “Wesley House exists because of this amazing community’s support.”
Registration is 9 a.m. The ice bowl runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and draws disc golf enthusiasts or anyone wanting to try something new. Clubs (or discs) can be provided.
The PPRD rents out discs year round at its office, 710 W. 9th, where early registration can be done too.
Payment is collected day of and is $10 per person plus 10 cans of food or $20. Mulligans can be purchased for $1 a piece or 12 for $10.
Last year’s event raised over $650 and more than 200 pounds of food. It also brought warmer-than-usual weather.
“The nice bowl as we call it,” PPRD Recreation Superintendent Sara Vacca said with a laugh about last year’s event.
Vacca added “it’s a fun event” and will happen “rain, snow, sleet or shine.”
