GIRARD — Pittsburg High School Assistant Principal and Activities Director Brannon Kidd will be taking over his own building in Girard next year.
The USD 248 Board of Education voted Monday to hire Kidd as principal at Girard Middle School following the retirement of current GMS Principal Randy Heatherly.
Heatherly had served as principal at GMS since 2002, and Girard Superintendent Blaise Bauer said the district felt Kidd was a good fit to pick up where Heatherly left off.
“We had a good applicant pool and interviewed four or five candidates with folks from the middle school staff,” Bauer said. “We think Mr. Kidd will be a good fit to follow Mr. Heatherly.”
Kidd has been at PHS for three years and before that served as a teacher, coach and assistant principal at school districts in Texas. He said he is excited to make the move to his own building.
“It’s a move I’ve been hoping to make for a couple years,” Kidd said. “I applied for the principal position at PHS, but wasn’t chosen.
“Everyone I’ve spoken to has great things to say about Girard and the district, so I’m expecting it to be a great move.”
Kidd will not be working as activities or athletic director at GMS, but said he will stay involved in the role of principal.
“They have two directors working over there,” Kidd said. “But I’ll be engaged with athletics. I have a son moving with me who’s an eighth grader
“Girard has some great programs and I want the athletics to thrive as much as academics.”
Kidd said he plans to officially start at Girard around July 1, but will be preparing before then.
“I’ll be in and out all summer working to get settled,” Kidd said. “And getting organized and acclimated so I’m ready when July comes.”
Heatherly is retiring from work in Kansas, but according to Bauer will be going back into the classroom in Missouri to teach math at Carl Junction.
