PITTSBURG — In the 1980s the song “Who Drew Your Plan” was written to represent Pittsburg — now the city is looking for a new tune.

LimeLight Marketing Owner and President Brandee Johnson said having songs and taglines is part of branding a place.

“This is part of the effort to build a Pittsburg brand,” she said. “A brand that gives people a good feeling about Pittsburg and that it is a place to live, work and play.”

Pittsburg’s new branding will be a collaborative effort between the City of Pittsburg, Pittsburg Area Chamber of Commerce, LimeLight Marketing and many more.

The song search is free to enter and not limited to Pittsburg residents. It is open to previous Pittsburg residents, alumni from Pittsburg State University — anyone who has roots in Pittsburg.

The requirements are to provide one song that is three minutes or less, be original work and may have multiple co-writers and band members.

The songs will be judged on melody, composition, originality and lyrics.  

The song must contain references to the concept “Forward Together” which contains the progression and unity of Pittsburg — resiliency, university and entrepreneurship, according to a release.

On Aug. 1, at Paint the Town Red the finalists will present their song in front of a panel of judges and the winner will be selected.
