PITTSBURG — Pittsburg USD 250 Board of Education discussed revisions of the Administrative Recruit and Hire Plan at its regular meeting Monday.
The plan is an existing hiring plan, which was altered according to suggestions from Human Resources Consultant Jim Payne.
Board Member BJ Harris asked if Payne had reviewed the updated plan.
USD 250 Superintendent Destry Brown confirmed Payne had reviewed the plan, and the revisions were in line with Payne’s suggestions — the main suggestion was to reduce the number of people involved in the screening and interviewing process.
No changes were made to the document before Mondays meeting, since the last meeting.
On Monday, the board decided to clarify and revise a section about screening and interviewing committees.
USD 250 Board Vice-President John Clark asked the board about the philosophy of using students during the hiring process and to decide who makes the decision to use students and different teams.
He also asked whether or not the board should commit to their decision on that in the plan.
“My question is about selecting an interviewing team,” he said. “Do we use two teams for the process?
“Do we make a decision and commit?”
Brown said in response to Clark’s question that USD 250 Human Resources Director Julie Menghini would prefer using the same team.
The board decided in the Administrative Recruit and Hire Plan the word “consider” will be changed to “will,” referring to using the same teams.
The board accepted the changes and voted on the plan.
In other news, Brown updated the board on the summer projects.
“Things are going well at the high school — the units [air conditioning] are in, hooked to lines, and electricity,” he said.
The crew will begin working on the gym’s new lighting fixtures next week and hot water tanks have been replaced.
The expected completion date was moved up from August 11 to 4.
“This is good news that they moved up a week,” Brown said. “They were 50 to 60 percent last Monday.
“They are working a little ahead of schedule.”
Since Pittsburg High School is under construction, enrollment will be from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, August 4 at Pittsburg Community Middle School.
