PITTSBURG — White dump trucks with green lettering can be seen around town on Wednesdays, these trucks belong to a sanitation company expanding through Crawford County.
Only a year old, 4 State Sanitation currently services 1,000 residential and commercial customers with trash collection in Bourbon County and most of Crawford County — Arcadia, Mulberry, Arma, Frontenac, Franklin, Pittsburg and some rural areas — with plans to expand further throughout Crawford County.
According to Steve Williams of the 4 State Sanitation Business Development, the environment is a consideration of 4 State Sanitation. He said the drivers not only make sure the areas around bins are clean, but they also make sure the truck itself is clean — the trucks are up to code and the company has its own maintenance crew.
“We are very, very attune to the environment — clean as possible,” he said. “Better trucks, better service — green is our goal.”
The company also operates a recycling center in Fort Scott, where it is headquartered. Although the recycling center will only be available to Bourbon County residents, Williams said the company encourages people to use Southeast Kansas Recycling Center.
“We recommend customers to utilize that facility,” he said. “They have very nice facility there.”
Williams said what makes 4 State Sanitation stand out from other trash services is its customer service — responding to customers needs and drivers taking time to take note of customers’ comments and concerns.
“We immediately respond to the needs of our customers,” he said.
Williams said Crawford County communities will see the company’s representatives around the town — both picking up trash and being involved in events.
“We like to be involved with the community,” he said. “We would like to meet all of them and we would like them to know us.”
