1. A Night to Remember
Fifty years of popular music comes to life at the Mirza Shrine Temple’s nostalgia-filled A Night to Remember. The evening will include music, dancing, visiting and live recordings of over 90 artists from the ‘50s through the ‘80s. Admission is $10 and all proceeds will benefit the family of a shriner who passed away last year. The night will also include a silent auction with several rare items. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own snacks and own beverage. Doors open at 8 p.m. at the Mirza Shrine Temple.
2. Honkytonk Renovators
The Honkytonk Renovators claim to be one of the only bands in the Midwest playing real country music. They’ll make good on that claim Friday night at the Bronco Bar in the Kansas Crossing Casino and Hotel. The Honkytonk Renovators have opened for Joe Diffie, Jodi Messina and more. They take the stage at 8 p.m. for a free show. Must be 21 or older to attend.
3. All Shook Up
The music of Elvis will fill Memorial Auditorium this weekend as young thespians take the stage from the Just Off Broadway theater camp. Campers are putting on two performances of ‘All Shook Up,’ a musical featuring the King’s greatest hits. Showtimes are 7 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday, both at Memorial Auditorium. Admission is $5 and benefits the Pittsburg High School Theater Department’s upcoming season.
4. Friday Flix at Colonial Fox
The Colonial Fox Theater is continuing its Friday Flix this week with Toy Story. The movie will begin at 8 p.m. and be projected on the north side of the theater. Chairs are not provided, so attendees will need to bring their own.
5. Back to School Swim
George Nettels PTO is hosting a back to school swim for students, parents, faculty and families at the Pittsburg Aquatic Center Friday. The pool will be open for free to these groups from 5 to 7 p.m.
