PITTSBURG — While the Pittsburg Area Chamber of Commerce hosts a Chamber Coffee each week, Thursday’s wasn’t the typical gathering.
Northwestern Mutual Financial Representative Joe Hart hosted the get together with Frisco Event Center Owner Larry Fields at the Frisco Event Center. With Hart as host, there was no shortage of laughs and theatrics.
“I just wanted to do something different,” he said. “And I had a lot of fun with it.”
Hart emceed the meeting, using his time to pepper in some jokes and introducing performances by the St. Mary’s Colgan Fourth Grade Choir. The group performed “This Land is my Land,” “I’ve Been Working on the Railroad” and more.
Hart also took the opportunity to recognize several new faces in the community — as well as some familiar faces in new positions. Speakers included the new Salvation Army Officer Lt. Mylie Hadden, new Pittsburg State University Men’s Basketball Coach Kim Anderson, City of Pittsburg Public Information Manager Sarah Runyon and many more.
“I wanted to take some time and recognize some of these new folks and people in new positions,” Hart said. “It’s nice to get them involved and get their face out there.”
Hart also highlighted his co-host, Larry Fields. Fields opened the Frisco Event Center earlier this year after working to restore and remodel the building. The event center is just across Elm Street from Hart’s office.
“I knew I was hosting one of these, so I approached Larry about doing it at his place, and he was happy to help and co-host with me,” Hart said. “Some people may not have been in there yet, so I wanted people to get to see what a beautiful place Larry and his wife had put together.”
The next chamber coffee will be hosted by Pittsburg Beautiful at the Pittsburg Farmers Market Pavilion. The coffee is at 8 a.m. with a ribbon cutting to follow.
