PITTSBURG — The City of Pittsburg closed its search for a general manager of Memorial Auditorium earlier this month after selecting a candidate with not only years of experience in entertainment promotions, but years working with musical artists and live music venues.
The city hired Chris Patterson for the role of general manager, and he began duties at Memorial Auditorium October 11. Patterson lived in Detroit, Michigan, before coming to Pittsburg. He worked as an independent promoter for national touring artists.
Patterson said in a release that he plans to use his experience to widen the variety of entertainment in Pittsburg — specifically looking to bring more live music to Memorial Auditorium.
“I’m excited to join the talented staff at the Memorial Auditorium and I look forward to working with our partners to continue the tradition of hosting great events for the Pittsburg community,” he said. “In the coming months, I look forward to collaborating with Pittsburg businesses and groups to grow the live entertainment options at this special venue.”
Patterson began his 25-year career in the concert businesses on the Miami University Concert Board in Oxford, Ohio. He spent 12 years working as a tour manager for acts like ZZ Top, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Luther Vandross, Deep Purple, Sinead O’Connor and more.
Before becoming an independent promoter, Patterson worked for Olympia Records in Detroit as the director of booking and production. There he oversaw more than 200 concerts, theatre productions and family shows for venues like Fox Theatre, Joe Louis Arena, Comerica Park and more.
In February, country music artist Travis Tritt will perform at Memorial Auditorium, giving life to Patterson’s goal of bringing new live music to the venue. Tickets for the show go on sale online and at Memorial Auditorium November 3.
