PITTSBURG — Communities in Schools of Mid-America in partnership with Kids First Initiative of Pontiac, Michigan, will host another holiday meal event this year.
CIS is a non profit organization, which serves as an advocate for children to help students be successful in school and after graduation.
Kids First Initiative is also a non profit organization, which also helps children move forward in life. They reach students globally, including Haiti and Puerto Rico.
Wednesday, the families will not only have pizza, but will also take part in Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics activities.
“We use STEAM activities to engage them in going forward, both for parents and students together,” Kids First Initiative President and CEO Richard Bell said.
The students will also have the opportunity to send cards to students in Puerto Rico, one of Kids First Initiative's next stop.
CIS Operations Coordinator Alex McNay said this year Communities in Schools have been able to reach more students as this is the first year for the program to be in all of Pittsburg’s elementary schools, where before the program was in Meadowlark Elementary, Pittsburg Community Middle School and Pittsburg High School.
He said students at the event will leave with a meal to cook with their family over the holiday season.
