PITTSBURG — A blaze broke out affecting two local homes Tuesday evening.

The Pittsburg Fire Department responded to a structure fire at approximately 5:40 p.m. Tuesday, located at 1805 and 1807 Heritage Road. The structure was a duplex housing a family with five children, as well as four young adults, according to PFD.

All human occupants evacuated the structure prior to PFD arriving on the scene. The duplex had visible flames.

PFD also recovered two pets from the structure. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire from the outside and then enter the home to rescue two pet tortoises, although one later died.

The residents had home and renters insurance, and representatives are investigating the cause of the fire.

No injuries were sustained and the fire is still under investigation.
