PITTSBURG — A Pittsburg man is dead in an apparent suicide following a high-speed chase.
According to a release from the Pittsburg Police Department, at about 4 p.m., Sunday, PPD officers responded to a call about a suicidal man at home in the 600 Block of W. 2nd street.
The man was not there when officers arrived, but apparently approached in a vehicle and, upon seeing officers present, fled at a high rate of speed.
PPD and deputies from the Crawford County Sheriff's Department pursued the subject out of the city limits. Because of the high speeds and conditions law enforcement terminated the pursuit.
Later that afternoon, the subject returned to the West 2nd street residence and entered the home. According to the release, short time later, a single gunshot was heard from within the residence. The 22 year old man was transported to Via Christi hospital for a self-inflicted gunshot Wound. He died a short time later at the hospital.
The investigation into this incident is ongoing at this time. Anyone having information related to this incident, or other crimes, is urged to contact the Pittsburg Police Department at (620) 231-1700, or on the tip line, (620) 231-TIPS (8477). Callers may remain anonymous.
