GIRARD — Crawford County Mental Health presented George Shoemaker with its first ever Community Service Mental Health Award Friday.
The award was created to recognize someone in the community who has worked toward the improvement of mental health.
Shoemaker is the current president of the National Alliance on Mental Health Southeast Kansas Board. He is also chairman of the NAMI Kansas Veterans and the Military Council, as well as a member of the NAMI State Board of Directors.
“I want to thank Crawford County Mental Health for the award and for its support of NAMI,” Shoemaker said. “I also want to thank my family for their support.”
Shoemaker was presented a plaque during the Crawford County Commission Meeting Friday, and his name was also placed on a plaque in the commission chambers, which will have names added to it to honor future recipients.
