PITTSBURG/GIRARD — The bells will be ringing down Pittsburg’s Broadway Street and around the Square in Girard soon.

It is that time of year and the Christmas parades will soon be underway, Pittsburg’s is set for 6:30 p.m., Monday and Girard’s is 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 7.

The 38th Annual Pittsburg Christmas Parade has a collective 50 floats, walking and band entries this year.
It is not too late for people who wish to be part of the parade. Contact Angelo Fears at Pittsburg Parks and Recreation, he said he will accept registrations up to noon on Monday.

Just as every year, the parade will begin 10th Street and Broadway and end at 2nd Street.

Girard’s parade will be a little different this year.

This year’s parade is “The Christmas Movie” themed and a donation allowed for a $200 prize for the best float.

“We were blessed with donations this year,” Girard Chamber of Commerce Director Julie Smith said. “We want to give back and do something different, and also grow the parade.”

There are no deadlines to enter floats and bands or to walk the parade, but people who would like to be announced need to call the Girard Chamber before the parade. Line-up starts at 5:45 p.m.

Immediately following the parade, Santa Claus will light the Christmas Tree in the Square.

Shining Star Memorials are available to memorialize a family member or friend who has passed. These stars are $20 each and are first come, first served. The money from the stars will go towards future displays. Contact the Girard Chamber for more information.
