PITTSBURG — The Community Foundation of Southeast Kansas invites the community to kick off the charitable season with Match Day, on Giving Tuesday.
Match Day is 24-hour, online fundraising campaign, created to help sustain local organizations which provide community services.
After a day of Thanksgiving, Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Parks said this is a day to give directly to the community people live in.
“Giving Tuesday recognizes a day people can give and feel good about giving,” Parks said.
To donate on Tuesday, people can visit the foundation’s website www.southeastkansas.org, donate in person at the Community Foundation between 8 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. or by check mailed to PO Box 1448, Pittsburg, KS 66762 with a postmark no later than November 28.
Last year the foundation raised $73,000 and the foundation matched $20,000 for a total of $93,000. This year the foundation is matching $27,000.
“We’re hopeful for another successful event, it really showed people in community care about others in the community,” Community Foundation Executive Director Kit Parks said.
Parks said the funds raised will go to organizations which have endowment funds in the foundation.
She said the money will help build long-term saving and can have an impact on these organizations for years — including present and future incomes.
Organizations which people can help support through the Match Day fundraising campaign include: Angels Among Us, Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Crawford County, Big Brutus, Family Resource Center, Food Security Fund (benefitting Wesley House food pantry and the Lord’s Diner), Frontenac Education Foundation, Healthcare Access for All, Mother to Mother Ministry, Mt. Carmel Foundation, Northeast School District 246, Pittsburg Beautiful, Pittsburg Public Library Foundation, Pittsburg USD 250 Foundation, Southeast Kansas Humane Society, Salvation Army (Senior services program in Crawford County), St. Mary’s Colgan School and United Way of Southwest Missouri and Southeast Kansas.
