PITTSBURG — Former Southeast School District communications agent Chris Wilson will be joining the team at the Crawford County Convention and Visitors Bureau Tuesday.

Wilson began his position as tourism and marketing assistant Tuesday, and will work with recently-hired CVB Executive Director Devin Gorman. The two will focus on promoting the county online, through print publications and more, while also striving to bring events to the area.

Wilson said the variety of the position was something that attracted him.

“While Devin is working on the big picture marketing with larger events, he needs someone to keep the web updated, work on stuff for the CVB magazine, help set up for events, just a little bit of everything,” Wilson said. “That’s really what attracted me to the job, and I kind of got a little bit of that at Southeast, being behind the scenes.”

Wilson did public relations and publicity work for Southeast School District for three years before leaving in May of this year when the district was forced to make cuts. Before that, he worked for a year at the Columbus evening newspaper — the furthest he said he’s ever worked from Pittsburg — and also for seven years as web producer at KOAM TV.

Gorman said CVB is excited to put Wilson’s content skills to work.

“I’m excited to bring Chris on board,” Gorman said. “He has a great deal of experience in publicity and public relations helping promote the area, as well as skills in web promotion that will be very useful.”

Wilson is also no stranger to the area. He’s lived in the Crawford County area his whole life, graduating from Pittsburg schools in 1993.

Wilson said he is excited to bring his experience to promoting Crawford County, and looks forward to learning more through the position.
