PITTSBURG — A home just outside of Pittsburg was claimed in a weekend blaze.
The Baker Township Fire Department was advised of a residential structure fire around 11:28 a.m. on Saturday at 1125 S. 220th St. Pittsburg.
Baker Fire responded, and Chief Mike Ryan said the fire was extinguished in 45 minutes. The home, however, was a total loss.
Four occupants resided at the home: two adults and two children. The family is being assisted by the American Red Cross.
There were no injuries to human occupants, but two cat’s died in the fire. Two dogs and a third cat made it out of the home safe along with the family.
There is no evidence of foul play and the fire is under investigation by the Kansas State Fire Marshal’s Office.
