PITTSBURG — An Asbury, Missouri, woman died Wednesday night after being struck by a vehicle on East Kansas Highway 126.

Ladonna Ann Griffith, 49, of Asbury, was pronounced dead at the scene after deputies from the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a vehicle incident involving a pedestrian. Deputies responded to the intersection of K-126 and 270th Street at approximately 7:41 p.m.

According to CRSO, the investigation showed that Cody Thompson, 29, of Nevada, Missouri, was driving west on K-126. Griffin was travelling west on foot from the Missouri state line. Deputies believe that Griffith was in the roadway at the time she was struck, and dark conditions and oncoming traffic were contributing factors in the incident.

CRSO does not believe alcohol was involved, but Thompson voluntarily submitted to a blood-alcohol test.

The Crawford County Coroner ordered that Griffith’s body be taken to Kansas City for an autopsy. Further information may be released pending the outcome of the blood-alcohol test and the autopsy.

The incident remains under investigation by the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office.
