PITTSBURG — An unattended death call led to the discovery of an old hand grenade, a release from the Pittsburg Police Department said Monday.
According to the release, at 11:04 a.m., Monday, officers responded to a single family residence, located at 611 E. 20th Street, for an unattended death investigation. The cause of death does not appear to be suspicious in nature. During the course of the investigation, officers located an old military hand grenade.
The Kansas Highway Patrol Emergency Services Unit was requested to assist and area residences were evacuated, along with a portion of the street being closed.
The KHP unit is currently taking precautions to render the device safe, along with its removal.
