PITTSBURG — Local firefighters battled a blaze after an unoccupied building caught fire on Saturday evening.
The City of Pittsburg Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 7:53 p.m. at 111 E. 10th Street.
Upon arrival, PFD personnel found the one-and-a-half story brick commercial building heavily involved, with fire and heavy smoke venting from the roof. There were 11 personnel and three apparatus on scene and they were there until 12:30 a.m.
Firefighters checked a nearby residence however no one was home, but police found a dog inside and removed it. The adjacent structure did not sustain damage.
According to a release, the contents of the commercial building sustained extensive damage.
PFD Fire Chief Mike Simons said there is no evidence of foul play. The Kansas State Fire Marshal was called to the scene to help with the investigation. At this time, the cause of the fire is undetermined and investigators are still examining the scene.
