PITTSBURG — A Pittsburg man was arrested Monday evening for allegedly attempting to kidnap and ex-girlfriend’s young son.
According to a release from the Pittsburg Police Department, at about 5:35 p.m., Monday, officers responded to a residence in the 800 block of East 7th Street in Pittsburg after being called about a possible kidnapping in progress. Upon arrival, officers contacted the female resident who indicated a former boyfriend, later identified as George Neuton White III, came to her home and attempted to leave with her 4 year-old-son. White is not related to the child, but was acquainted with the child from the previous dating relationship.
At some point, the child entered White’s vehicle and White began to drive away, but stopped behind the residence when the woman yelled and came toward the vehicle. The woman attempted to remove her child from the vehicle while White allegedly attempted to push her out of the car and keep her son in the vehicle. The woman alleged White struck her in the arm and shoulder during the struggle, but she was finally able to remove the child from the vehicle and run into her home where she called police. White then allegedly began to back out of the alleyway behind the residence where he struck a chain-link fence causing damage, then abandoned his vehicle and left the area on foot.
As officers were checking the area, White, 39, was located on foot near his residence in the 1000 block of East 11th Street.
White was placed under arrest and transported to the Crawford County Jail where he is facing charges of attempted kidnapping, domestic battery and felony criminal damage to property. He is being held on $50,000 bond.
