Coester benefit
GIRARD — A benefit for Kenny Coester will be held at the Girard American Legion, located east of Girard on K-47. All events will be outside.
Poker run registration will be from 8 to 8:30 a.m., with the last bike leaving at 9 a.m. Horseshoe contest will begin at 9 a.m., and registration fee will be $25 per team.
Pulled pork and Sloppy Joe sandwiches with bags of chips will be available around noon for a free-will offering. Other refreshments will be available for purchase. A live auction will begin at 6 p.m. Those attending should bring lawn chairs.
The fundraiser is being sponsored by friends and family of Coester, who has extensive small cell carcinoma, along with the Girard American Legion and Auxiliary and the Sons of the American Legion.
Donations may also be dropped off or mailed to the First National Bank of Girard, P.O. Box 6, 205 S. Summit, Girard, Kan., 66743.
Pittsburg Farmers Market
Pittsburg Farmers Market will open at 7:30 a.m. and run until noon or sold out at Second and Broadway.
A “customer appreciation basket,” filled with items donated by market vendors, will be given away in a drawing at 11 a.m. Shoppers may register at the information booth for the drawing, and the winner must be present to claim the basket.
Items scheduled for the market will include sweet corn, okra, tomatoes, garlic, perennials, bedding plants, potted herbs and fresh-cut herbs, burpless cucumbers, chard, green beans, bitter melon, cantaloupes, eggplant, potatoes, onions, green peppers, yard-long beans, radishes, zucchini and other squashes, jalapenos, pecans, eggs, raw honey, dip mixes, a huge variety of jams and jellies and baked goods.
Also available will be headbands, hair bows, picture frames, greeting cards, custom picture mats, lotions, candles, handmade rugs and other woven items, wooden bowls, lip balm, soap, quilts, purses and totes.
Shoppers may pay with credit, debit or Vision cards, and some produce vendors also accept Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program vouchers.

Large item drop off
A free large item drop off for Crawford County residents only will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Southeast Kansas Recycling Center, 615 S. Joplin.
Items accepted will be mattresses, box springs, furniture, chairs, couches and appliances.
VFW Auxiliary
Albert M. Wheeler Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary 1158 will have a regular meeting at 9:30 a.m. at the post home. Effie Toney, president, will preside.
Spaghetti dinner
ARMA — Arma American Legion Post 182 will serve a spaghetti dinner, open to the public, from 5 to 7 p.m.
Menu will feature spaghetti with meatballs, tossed salad, garlic bread and dessert. Carry-outs will be available. Cost will be a $6 donation, with children 6 and younger eating free.
