Voter informational meeting
An informational meeting on new regulations set forth by the Secure and Fair Elections law (SAFE Act) of 2011 will be held from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the Beard-Shanks Law Enforcement Center.
Starting Jan. 1, 2012, Kansas voters must show photographic identification when casting a vote in person, and those registering to vote for the first time in Kansas must prove U.S. citizenship.
The meeting will be open to all interested persons.
Kiwanis Club
Pittsburg Kiwanis Club will meet at noon in dePaul Hall, Via Christi Hospital. Speaker will be Linda Grilz of the Miners’ Hall Museum Foundation.
Greeter will be Vicki Palmer and Betty Ward will serve as cashier. Kathryn George will give the invocation.
UMWA
Local 14, District 12, United Mine Workers of America, will have a monthly meeting at 1 p.m. at the Pittsburg American Legion Post 64 post home, 2815 N. Joplin. All UMWA members may attend.
Franklin Farmers/Crafters
FRANKLIN — Franklin Farmers/Crafters market will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Franklin Community Park, located on Highway 69 Business, six miles north of Pittsburg.
Available this week will include a variety of garden vegetables, farm fresh free range brown eggs, potted plants, canned vegetables such as pickled okra, pies, cookies and breads and hand-crafted items such as kitchen towels and rags, baby hats and blankets, candles, soaps, rustic wood products, crocheted items, hand-made jewelry and more.
Vendors may set up for free, but must register in advance by calling 620-249-4258 or e-mailing franklinkansas@yahoo.com.
Senior exercise
A weekly free senior exercise group will be held at 8:30 a.m. at the Homer Cole Community Center, 3003 N. Joplin.
Sponsored by Girard Medical Center, the session offers simple movements and stretching to help with upper and lower body strength, cardiovascular and overall health.
