The Crawford County Health Department’s quest to administer the H1N1 flu virus vaccine at all of the area schools may take a bit longer than first anticipated.
County Health Officer Janis Goedeke said incoming allotments of the Live Attenuated Influenza Vaccine are not as large as she expected, which could slow the process of delivering them to each of the county’s six school districts.
“We have small amounts coming in,” she said. “We will get to every school eventually, but when is just a matter of supply.”
Frontenac students received the vaccine last week, and USD 250 schools are next on the list, starting Thursday at the elementary schools. Superintendent Destry Brown said approximately 200 elementary school students had, as of Monday afternoon, signed up to receive the vaccine. If that number gets much larger, however, some of those students will have to wait.
“I have enough (of the vaccine) to do about 200 kids this week,” Goedeke said. “The vaccine supply is tighter this week.”
