Books are donated as part of Noon Kiwanis Youth Services program at Westside Elementary. Kiwanis donated more than 300 books to the four USD 250 and St. Mary's Colgan elementary school libraries for early readers (K-2). Kiwanis provides the books through the Literacy Empowerment Foundation. Bruce Larkin, the published author of over 500 early children's books, including the extremely popular Larkin's Little Readers Series, has generously agreed to donate sets of 50 free books at the pre-kindergarten, kindergarten and first grade reading levels through the "Books From Bruce" program. Books are free. Groups only pay shipping and handling. Delivering the books this year were Dr. Mark Johnson, Kiwanis Youth Services Chairman and fellow Kiwanis members Earl and Betty Ward. This is the third year that Kiwanis has donated books to schools.
