Cookies, the smell of apple cider and Christmas music from a marimba ensemble will greet concertgoers at a free community Christmas concert on Dec. 7.
The concert, by the Pittsburg State University Bands, will be held at 3 p.m. that day in Memorial Auditorium. Refreshments and music in the auditorium lobby will precede the concert, beginning at 2:30 p.m. A sing-along and refreshments, also in the lobby, will follow the concert at approximately 4 p.m.
Dr. Craig Fuchs, director of the Department of Music, said he had been thinking of a holiday band concert for a while.
“Music is such an important part of the holiday season,” Fuchs said. “These performances are fun for both the audience and the performers and it is one way that we can share this season with the community that supports us throughout the year.”
Fuchs said the concert will feature tunes that just about everyone knows well. The Memorial Auditorium setting will also allow for some creative staging, Fuchs said.
