A Pittsburg State University student group is trying to raise money to start a textbook scholarship for its freshman members.

The Black Student Association will host a community-wide talent show at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 3 in the Overman Student Center’s Crimson and Gold Ballroom.

‘It’s open to the whole community,” said BSA president Cierra Bailey. “We’re trying to bring the community together and do a big event for everyone.”

Bailey said organizers are looking for dancers, magicians and musicians, among others.

“Just about any talent,” Bailey said. “We’re really open to anything, groups too.”

Bailey said if the show works out well, the BSA could turn it into an annual event.”

“We’ve have had small talent shows on campus in the past, but we haven't had a big one like this before,” she said. “We’ve been planning since the beginning of the semester and have a couple performances already, one coming in from Kansas City and a couple from campus.”

Anyone who is interested in signing up for the show can call or text BSA vice president Darrell Chism at (816)536-5958, or e-mail him at darrell.chism@yahoo.com; Bailey also is available at (913)787-4792.
