Pittsburg State University’s Police and Parking Services will be looking for a different kind of parking permit when classes start back up this fall.
Over the next six weeks, officials will issue nearly 7,000 repositionable window sticker permits, which will replace the hang tags that the university has used for several years.
“We’re making the change primarily to cut down on costs,” Mike McCracken, director of Police and Parking Services, said in a university release — McCracken was not available for comment as of press time. “There are other benefits, as well. The stickers can easily be moved between vehicles and they do not obstruct the driver’s vision in the way the hang tags could.”
McCracken said users should place the sticker on the lower left corner of their windshield.
All students, faculty and staff at PSU are required to have parking permits to park on campus, the release said. For students, the cost of the permit is included in their fees. McCracken advises students to have their online parking registration completed before they arrive on campus.
“It’s just one more thing they won’t have to worry about when they arrive,” McCracken said.
Pitt State junior Tommi West and freshman Alex Walsh got their new permits Thursday afternoon. They said they were impressed with the stickers.
“I think they’re going to be better than the other permits,” West said. “They tend to fall off.”
Walsh, who will be a freshman this fall and who has never used the hang tags, said the stickers are great.
“I love them,” she said. “I’ve never had one before, but I know you can’t forget to put them on.”
