Sunflower Kiwanis makes a difference with donations

The Sunflower Kiwanis Club of Pittsburg recently issued donations to local organizations totaling $4600.

The club has donated more than $12,000 this year to various civic organizations in Pittsburg, as well as for PSU scholarships and for supporting the local Kiwanis district for the state of Kansas and the Kiwanis International organization worldwide initiatives. The Kansas District is comprised of 88 Kiwanis clubs that work to make a difference in local communities and in the lives of children.

The recipients were honored recently during a meeting at Via Christi hospital. A club spokesperson was unavailable for comment as of press time.

Groups that recently received donations include:

• Pittsburg Parks and Recreation Department received a donation totaling $3800 to install a "Whirl-a-round" for the Countryside Kiwanis Park and to install a swing set
at the Sunflower Kiwanis Park at Fieldcrest and California.

• Children's Advocacy Center received $300.

• Habitat for Humanity received $200

• Elm Acres received $300.
