American Red Cross will conduct a blood drive from 1 to 6:30 p.m. today and 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at Countryside Christian Church.
All blood types are needed, but O negative is especially vital because it can be safely given to persons with any blood type. This is particularly important in emergency situations.
Donors must be in general good health, weigh at least 110 pounds and be at least 17 years old, or 16 in Kansas with a completed parental consent form. New height and weight restrictions apply to donors younger than 19. Those coming to give blood will need to show a blood donor card, driver’s license or two other forms of identification.
Donors who wish may join the Red Cross Racing donor rewards program and get points for giving blood and/or platelets and recruiting other donors. These points can be exchanged for exclusive NASCAR racing gear and collectibles. Persons interested in this program may visit redcrossracing.com.
Those wishing to give blood may schedule an appointment by calling 1-800-RED CROSS (733-2767) or visit redcrossblood.org. Walk-ins are also welcome.
