PHS choirs to host concert

PITTSBURG —

Pittsburg High School vocal music program will present a spring choir concert at 7:30 p.m. Monday at McCray Recital Hall, Pittsburg State University.

Under the direction of Susan Laushman, the concert will feature PHS choirs, state soloists and senior recognition. The performance will conclude with the Presbyterian Church choir joining PHS Encore to present literature that will be performed at 3 p.m. May 24 at the Kennedy Center Concert Hall, Washington, D.C.

That concert will be under the direction of Dr. John Leavitt, nationally known composer and a former teacher of Mrs. Laushman.

“I’m honored and privileged to represent Pittsburg High School and the Pittsburg community in this concert at the Kennedy Center,” Mrs. Laushman said. “I also want to give a heartfelt thank you to the corporate sponsors and individuals who made generous contributions toward PHS Encore members traveling to Washington, D.C.”

The program will begin with the Girls Glee performing “Now is the Month of Maying” by Thomas Morley, “Scarborough Fair” and “Keep Your Lamps!”

The PHS Women’s Chorus, which received a superior I rating at the State Large Ensemble Festival, will perform “Away from the Role of the Sea” by Diane Loomer and “Ning Wendete,” arranged by Lana Walter.

PHS Men’s Chorus, which also received a superior I rating a the State Large Ensemble Festival, will sing “Poor Man Lazrus” arranged by Jester Hairston and “Stouthearted Men,” arranged by John Leavitt.

Lacey Daniels, junior recepient of a I rating at the State Solo Festival, will sing “Bel Piacere” by Handel. Stephen Baldwin, sophomore recipient of a I rating at the State Solo Festival, will sing “The Vagabond” by R. Vaughan Williams. Rebekah Dallman, senior recipient of a I rating at the State Solo Festival, will sing “I Can’t be Talkin’ of Love” by John Duke.

James Chan, senior recipient of a I rating at the State Solo Festival, will sing “Danny Boy.” From Hong Kong, he has been an exchange student at PHS this year.
PHS Encore, which received a I rating at the State Large Ensemble Festival, will sing “Let Their Celestial Concerts Unite” by Handel, “Dirait-on” by Morten Johannes Lauridsen and “Elijah Rock” by Moses Hogan.

PHS Encore and the Presbyterian Church choir will conclude by performing “Jubilee” by John Leavitt, featuring Taylor Milstead and Margaret Neil as soloists, and “River in Judea,” also by Leavitt.

Girls Glee members are Ashley Bruce, Lauren Commons, Jessica Denton, Stephanie Eastman, Tara Ehrheart, Ashley Finkbeiner, Anna Frasco, Amy Grotheer, Hannah Hashman, Courtney Haynes, Lindsey Hollingsworth, Courtney Jarvis, Kaley Knowles, Sara Koroush, Tabitha Kramer, Sophia Samuel, Jennifer Scholes, Holly Smardo, Erica Springer, Kaylea Tanner, Sarah Winters, Brittany Young, Brianna Zaharsky and Konstanze Zeigler.

Members of PHS Encore are Stephen Baldwin, Ethan Bradshaw, Robin Brummitt, Aaron Burns, James Chan, Joleeon Conley, Rebekah Dallman, Lacey Daniels, David Elam, Anna Ewing, LeeAnna Flake, Jessica Gilliland, Robyn Hilt, Claire Howard, Lara Ismert, Ashley Jarvis, Andrew Korbe, Alyssa Markey, Alex McNay, Taylor Milstead, Danielle Minnis, Alisha Montague, Kelsey Parks, Benny Penner, Julie Penner, Alison Percy, Vincent Plotner, Chase Richardson, Natasha Smith, Brad Sommerfeldt, Mollie Stephens, Aaron Stevens, Eric Stotler, Chris Summit, Richard Teague, Brett Thomas, Sadie Thomas, Shawnee Viets, Tyler West, Joshua Wilde and Mackenzie Willis.
Pittsburg Presbyterian Church choir members participating will be Eric Bradshaw, Janeil Bryan, Vonnie Corsini, Terry Cox, Virginia Darling, Charlotte Evans, Linda Evans, Steven Garbrick, Natalee Hulstine, Steve Layman, Janet Pittman, Beth Manrique, Santos Manrique, Alex McNay, Cyndi Moore, Mark Moore, Mary Mummert, Steve Murphy, Cooper Neil, Margaret Neil, Anna Noonoo, Camille Olcese, Dennis Pickering, Pat Pickering, Cameron Schmitz, Angela Shaw, Jodie Southern, Lori Southern, Lucas Warford and Tammy Warford.
