PITTSBURG —

Lincoln Park went to the dogs for the Fourth of July, with the annual dog show held in Lincoln Center.
Area canines squared off in competition in categories such as biggest dog, smallest dog, best costume, best fur coat, best trick and best sit and stay.
Contestants ranged from Great Danes Bashia, Brutus and Hunter, owned by Doug and Debbi Frasco, to Kay, a toy fox terrier who is the companion of Marcia Moore, Pittsburg.
The Danes tipped the scales at 140 pounds, 130 pounds and 80 to 90 pounds.
“They’re the best dogs in the world,” said Debbi Frasco.
Brutus and Bashia took first and second place in the biggest contest, with Boots, owned by Amanda Brisbin, coming in third.
Smallest were Peaches, a puppy owned by Regana Fine, Kay and Fou Fou, owned by Kendra Prince.
Then there was Sassy, who lives with Katherine Smith, Pittsburg. For her costume entry, Sassy was dressed like a favorite Wizard of Oz character — not Toto, but Dorothy. She wore a blue gingham dress and had pigtails tied with ribbon.
“That’s her real fur on her ears that I braided,” Smith said.
Her work paid off. Sassy took top honors for her costume. Mr. Bill, a retired racing greyhound registered to Maya Reed, took second, and Charlie, owned by Brandon Demo, was third.
Though she has never attended obedience classes, Sassy also won first place for the longest sit-stay. “I did all her training myself,” Smith said.
Placing second was Charlie, owned by Demo, and Kirbie, owned by Terry Calloway.
Winners in the best trick category were: Django, owned by John Luttrell, first; Charlie, owned by Demo, second; and Isabell, owned by Karen Thomas, third.
Best fur coat went to Chi, owned by Kersee Cumiskey, first; Sassy, owned by Smith; and Kirbie, owned by Calloway.
First place winners from each category competed for best of show, which was determined by popular vote. Winner was Peaches, owned by Regana Fine.
