Local students awarded PSU scholarships, awards

Several local high school seniors/incoming freshmen have been awarded Alumni Legacy License Plate Scholarships and/or Academic Achievement Awards at Pittsburg State University.
Academic Achievement Scholarships are based on a student’s high school grade point average and ACT score. Recipients of  Alumni Legacy License Plate Scholarships must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average and have a parent who graduated from PSU.
Recipients are as follows: Taylor Black, daughter of Tim Black, Pittsburg, and Julie Miller, Frontenac, Frontenac High School, plans to major in nursing, Alumni Legacy and Academic Achievement Award; Kale Cunningham, son of Philip and Diane Cunningham, Weir, Pittsburg High School, plans to major in automotive technology, Alumni Legacy; Paige Davied, daughter of Dean and Tonya Davied, Farlington, Girard High School, undecided major, Alumni Legacy;   Taylor Payne, daughter of Tamera Payne, Pittsburg, undeclared major, Alumni Legacy and Academic Achievement Award; Nicholas Popejoy, son of Scott and Renee Popejoy, Arma, Northeast High School, plans to major in early/late childhood development, Alumni Legacy; and Austin Price, son of David and Gayle Price, Girard, Girard High School, plans to major in chemistry, Alumni Legacy.
In addition, two Pittsburg freshmen have received PSU music scholarships. Shawnee Viets, daughter of Holly Viets and George Viets, has received a talent-based music minor scholarship. She is majoring in marketing with a music minor.
Kyle George, son of Paula and Larry George, has received a $3,000 PSU Music Department Scholarship. He is carrying a double major in music and business administration.
