Pittsburg optometrists attend convention
More than 450 people attended the 2008 Kansas Optometric Association Convention, which took place April 24-26 in Topeka.
Among those optometrists attending were Ken Brooks, Tom Brooks, Chris Jacquinot and Keith Mallatt of Pittsburg.
The association installed its new board of directors and handed out awards.
Optometrists were also able to attend 14 hours of continuing education on the latest developments in eye care for re-licensure.
SEK, Inc., to host monthly meeting
The monthly meeting of the Manufacturers’ Forum of Southeast Kansas, Inc. will take place Wednesday, May 21st at the Tyler Research Center on the campus of Pittsburg State University, lasting from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Jesse Bechtold, Chief Financial Officer for MAMTC and Eureka growth coach for MAMTC in Kansas will offer the subject briefing upon Eureka! Winning Ways. Forum attendees will learn about the new growth program for manufacturers which is the world’s only growth program grounded in hard data and the Scientific Method.
Of the idea-generation program, Jesse Bechtold said "It gives companies an entrepreneurial feeling again."
"I think the long-term value of the program is it helps them think like young companies again. It puts excitement back into doing business.
As is usual with the forum, opportunity will be provided for questions and feedback.
Additionally, after the program registrants will be able to tour the Tyler Research Center, the new research facility for the scientists of the Kansas Polymer Research Center.

Cornerstone Village Wins In Good Taste Award
The nutrition services staff at Cornerstone Village has been awarded the “In Good Taste” Award by Via Christi Senior Services. The award presentation took place in Wichita April 17.
The “In Good Taste” Award is presented semi-annually to the food service department within the Via Christi Senior Services system judged to have the most outstanding food service. Kay Billinger, vice president of nutrition services for Via Christi Senior Services, visits each community and rates them on everything from quality of food, services, temperature, presentation and cleanliness.
On her most recent visit to Cornerstone, the nutrition services department received a rating of 99.81 percent.
LOCAL REALTOR ACHIEVES NATIONAL RECOGNITION
Sandra Emerson with Coldwell Banker Jim Bishop & Associates has been awarded the Accredited Buyer Representation (ABR‚) designation by the Real Estate BUYER’S AGENT Council, INC. (REBAC) of the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS‚ (NAR).
