Lanora Michelle Driskill Spigarelli, 43, Frontenac, was sentenced Wednesday to three years federal probation and ordered to pay more than $74,000 in restitution for her part in embezzling money from Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frontenac.
Spigarelli pleaded guilty in July to one count of mail fraud. In her plea, she admitted to embezzling $74,027 from January 2006 to September 2007 from Sacred Heart while serving as the church's business manager. She placed stolen money in the U.S. mail when she used it to pay her personal bills.
According to Crawford County Sheriff Sandy Horton in June, the investigation, which included the sheriff’s office, FBI and KBI, revealed 111 separate counts of alleged fraud regarding the case, but all of the counts were lumped into one federal mail fraud charge. Horton said the payments were to "her and her family."
