A benefit for Alex Scimeca and Shanna Valley, who were seriously injured in an accident June 10 north of Frontenac, will be held from 3 p.m. to midnight Saturday at Fat Daddy’s.

Scimeca and Valley were life-flighted from the accident scene.

Two other persons in the vehicle, Joseph N. Fajardo, 24, Pittsburg, and Dillon J. Fullerton, 23, Yates Center, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Featured will be music by local bands, a silent auction and some raffles.

The event is being coordinated by Trista Scales, an installment loan officer at Labette Bank, Cherokee.

“Alex spent a week in Tulsa, and Shanna was at St. John’s Medical Center, then Via Christi Hospital, and they both face rehab,” she said.

“I knew that they were going to have lots of bills, and I wanted to help. I had never done a benefit before, but people here are so giving.”

Scheduled to perform are Lane Steiner, Josh Hucke, Temporary Sorrow, Normal Street Band, Monkey Bullet, S.J. Trio, Cousin Eddie and part of Conway Jackson.

Scimeca, 22, Pittsburg, played guitar and did vocals with the group before the accident.
“Alex has played for several benefits, and been very giving to raise money for other people’s needs,” Scales said.

“I think that’s why these other musicians have been so willing to come out for to help him.”

The son of Vince and Mary Scimeca, Arcadia,  he is a 2006 Northeast High School graduate and played varsity basketball all four years.

Scales said that Scimeca and Valley, 23, Pittsburg, both worked at Chatters. “Shanna is a smiling face you like to see whenever you go to the bar at Chatters,” Scales said.

Providing silent auction items and prizes were Wildside Salon, Allure Salon and Spa and Mailbu Tanning.

“We’ve also got Kansas City Royals tickets, Silver Dollar  City tickets, passes to Big Brutus and a tour of the Fox 14 TV studio,” Scales said.

She said that the benefit will be suitable for all ages.

“I plan to take my niece and nephew, and I hope my grandparents will be able to attend,” Scales said. “For those who choose to drink, we’ll have a designated driver system.”

Those unable to attend the benefit may mail donations to Labette Bank, P.O. Box 308, Cherokee, Kan., 66724.

“People can also drop off donations at any Labette Bank branch,” Scales said.
