For more than 25 years, Dependable Education Products Company has been developing and providing educational tools and concepts to schools throughout the country.
Later this year, DEPCO and its services will be featured on the cable television program "Her Domain," a program on the Oxygen network dedicated to women's issues.
According to the show's producer, DEPCO was chosen as a feature story for the company's "innovative" programs.
"Dependable Education Products is exactly the type of company that we like to feature on 'Her Domain,'" said Gordon Freeman, executive producer of the show. "Their educational software programs are innovative, they have a lot planned for the future and they have a great story to tell."
As part of the production of the show, Crown Point Productions sent a film crew to the Pittsburg area to showcase DEPCO's services. On Wednesday, a film crew visited the kindergarten class at Northeast Elementary School in Arma to film young students using DEPCO's products.
According to a news release from Crown Point Productions, the crew wanted to film students using the products as a way to "get the story behind the story" and to leave viewers with "no doubt as to why DEPCO was selected for the show."
Dave Holloman, DEPCO president, said the local company was contacted about being featured on the show and secured a spot on the program by explaining DEPCO's services and its goals for the future.
"After explaining what we did and the ways we're trying to go back and re-invent the way literacy is taught at the kindergarten level, they became more and more interested," he said.
Holloman said he appreciated the show's interest in DEPCO and said he's excited about seeing the episode on television.
"It is an honor to have our products featured on the Oxygen channel," he said. "Mrs. (Debbie) Vanderpool's class at Northeast Elementary was an exceptional venue to demonstrate our latest kindergarten literacy program."
The featured literacy curriculum, called Secret Codes, was designed to reduce and prevent reading difficulties for kindergarten students. The program was developed through partnership between DEPCO and Dr. David Hurford of the Center for the Assessment and Remediation of Reading Difficulties at Pittsburg State University.
The "Her Domain" episode featuring DEPCO is scheduled to air in December, but a specific date has not been set.
