Two motorists were found dead in the early hours of Wednesday according to Labette County Sheriff William Blundell.

The motorists, who were missing since April 27, were found at 1:33 a.m. Wednesday in an overturned, submerged car in Pumpkin Creek on 15000 Road in rural Labette County.

According to a report from the Labette County Sheriff’s Department, 22-year-old Tonya L. Demoss of Springfield, Mo. and 26-year-old Tyler J. Odaffer of Parsons were last heard from on April 27 east of Mound Valley on 15000 Road.

Due to the heavy rains in the area, officers began searching low-water crossings and, at 1:33 a.m., a 1998 Saturn 4-door vehicle was found overturned and submerged in approximately 10 feet of water, trapping both occupants.

The report stated that it is believed that the vehicle was traveling west on 15000 Road and tried to cross a low-water crossing and was swept off the roadway.

According to Blundell, both victims have been sent to Topeka for autopsy.
