Tuesday morning, the BNSF Railway to started a rehabilitation project on its mainline crossing on US-400 Highway east of the US-400/K-7 junction at Cherokee. The old railroad crossing will be removed and replaced by new tracks and a new public crossing surface.
BNSF closed the crossing to through traffic Tuesday morning. The crossing will remain closed throughout the week, and will be reopened around 4 p.m. Friday.
Eastbound US-400 motorists will be detoured around the work zone as follows: from Cherokee, north on K-7 to K-126, east on K-126 to US-69, and south on US-69 to US-400. Westbound motorists should take the same route in reverse order.
