Girard Community National Bank vice president Greg Sullivan visited GHS on Wednesday, April 27, to teach students about loans and credit.

Students in Christen Jackson’s math classes received a packet that Mr. Sullivan used to help aide in their understanding of what constitutes good and bad credit and about financing loans.

He spoke about the importance of having good credit and how to start building a high credit score as a high school or college student.

Students were asked to pay close attention to the information presented, and after each section they were given a small quiz to see if they had retained the facts about loans and financing.

The first student who raised a hand and responded correctly received a $5 bill. Manuel Lalicker and Madison Smith won the money.

At the end of the presentation, students were given the chance to ask their own questions about personal finances, loans and credit.

Regarding the presentation, junior Morgan Little said, “Among other things, I learned that overdrafting your account negatively affects your credit score and that you must always know your balance to avoid overdrafting and harming your score.”

Instructor Christen Jackson said, “I really appreciate Mr. Sullivan sharing his expertise on credit and loans with my students. This is critical information for them as they enter the adult world as financial consumers, and I think he did a wonderful job of providing information that they can use.”
