A fire Saturday afternoon has consumed two buildings in downtown Pittsburg.
Pittsburg Fire crews were called to the corner of Eighth and Broadway around 3 p.m. Saturday to heavy smoke coming out of one of the second floor of one of the buildings.
Shortly after arriving, Pittsburg Fire Chief Scott Crain said that firefighters started to see flames coming from the second floor of the building that houses Benelli's Jewelry.
"It's towards the back of the second floor," Crain said.
From there the fire spread to the north, into the building that is occupied by Beitzinger Hardware, Inc. — which is located at the corner of Eighth and Broadway.
Fire crews called for Pittsburg Police to block off Broadway, from Seventh to Ninth and from Locust to Pine due to the heavy smoke.
At present, the Knights of Columbus building, located to the north of Benelli's, has sustained smoke and water damage but, Sears and Mike's New and Used were affected very little by the blaze.
Fire crews remain on the scene and Crain said that they will likely be there into the night hours.
