Those looking to get ahead of the fall flu season will have the chance today.
The Community Health Center of Southeast Kansas (CHCSEK) is offering flu vaccines for children and adults at its Pittsburg clinic, 3011 N. Michigan, today from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. At CHCSEK, the cost of the vaccine is $15 for shots or $25 for flumist. Vaccines are free for adults enrolled in Medicare and Medicaid. There is no cost for children enrolled in Medicaid or those 18 and under whose insurance does not cover flu shots.
New this year, the Centers for Disease Control now recommends that everyone 6 months and older should get a flu vaccine each year starting this flu season.
CDC officials warn that flu is unpredictable, but the 2009 H1N1 virus and other regular seasonal viruses are expected to reappear. This year’s flu vaccine will fight three different flu viruses: an H3N2 virus, an influenza B virus and the H1N1 virus.
