Christmas parades coming soon

The Christmas season is upon Crawford County, and area communities will be celebrating with their annual Christmas parades and lighting ceremonies.
The City of Frontenac’s annual lighting ceremony will take place today at Christmas Park, which is located next to town hall and the courthouse at 200 E. McKay in Frontenac. The event begins at 5 p.m. and features the lighting ceremony, live music from the Sweet Adelines chorus and the Frontenac High School band, a lighted train ride for kids, hot chocolate, cookies and a visit from Santa Claus, courtesy of the Frontenac Fire Department.

The City of Pittsburg’s annual Christmas parade will be held Monday evening and is presented by the Pittsburg Parks and Recreation Department. The parade begins at 6:30 p.m. in downtown Pittsburg. Lineup for floats and other entries begins at 5 p.m. in front of Pittsburg Community Middle School. For more information, contact Pittsburg Parks and Recreation at (620) 231-8310.
The City of Arma’s Christmas parade will be a little different this year. The parade will run east to west this year. Lineup begins at 7 p.m. at City Hall at 701 E. Washington, and will move west to Northeast Elementary School. There will be elves, cookies and hot cider and a visit from Santa Claus after the parade. The city also is hosting a Christmas lighting contest for Arma residents.  To register, call or stop by City Hall. Residents will be judged Dec. 19 and 20

The first place is $100, the second place prize is $75 and the third place prize is $50. For more information about the parade, contact Stefanie Peternell, (620) 347-4711.

The Girard Christmas parade and celebration will be held on Thursday, Dec. 6 in the city square. Christmas caroling begins at 6 p.m. on the square and will be followed by the parade at 6:30. The Celebrate Girard Committee is also seeking donations to go toward float prizes, Breakfast with Santa Event and other expenses for the city’s holiday events. Santa is planning to visit Girard businesses again this year, and the committee will send out more information as it becomes available.
