“Arts for Arthritis,” an extravaganza created by Kaye Lewis and the Midwest Regional Ballet, will be presented at 7:30 p.m. today in Pittsburg Memorial Auditorium.
Admission will be $10 at the door.
“We have four-state area artists singing, playing guitar, piano and violin, dancers and aerial ballet on silks,” Lewis said. “Proceeds will benefit the Arthritis Foundation.”
She has often used the arts to raise funds for causes. Lewis has had several benefits for the Children’s Miracle Network, and her 2010 original ballet production of “Dracula” raised funds for breast cancer research.
“Kaye has had arts evenings before, and wanted to do something different this year, so I suggested doing something for arthritis,” said Susie Lundy, Pittsburg, who has performed with Lewis several times. “She and the Midwest Regional Ballet kids really embraced the idea.”
Dr. Angela Shaw will give an informative talk on arthritis before the entertainment starts. She will also be a featured singer in the program, along with Lundy, Cheri Avery, Stella Hastings, Lisa Gerstenkorn, Brian Hendricks, Maggie Stuckey, Mary Jo Harper and Cassandria Mills.
Cooper Neil and Larry Fleury will be guitar soloists, and Maddy Kellenburger will perform an electric violin solo.
The Midwest Regional Ballet will perform several dance sequences choreographed by Lewis, in costumes created by Lewis.
“My favorite of Kaye’s dances is to ‘Night of the Dancing Flame’, which just came to her one evening after she’d heard that music,” Lundy said. “She said she heard it and immediately thought of a three-ring circus.”
“It’s got zebras and other circus animals,” Lewis said. “The show should be suitable for all ages, and the proceeds are going to a very good cause.”
