An accident caused by drunk driving sent two passengers to a local hospital late Saturday night.
At 11:54 p.m., police responded to a two-car accident at the intersection of 14th and Rouse streets.
According to an investigation detailed in a police report, a 2007 Chevrolet Aveo driven by Eva Schenk, 22, Pittsburg, was driving southbound on Rouse Street. A 2003 Jeep Wrangler driven by Shauna Vance, 34, Pittsburg, was driving northbound and attempted to turn west onto 14th street.
Police say Vance failed to yield while making the turn.
There were four people in Schenk’s car, three of whom were injured. Schenk sustained minor facial injuries. Lisa Landrith, 19, Pittsburg, received a major arm injury, while Kirsten Burk Fontaine, 18, McCune, suffered a major injury to her face. Another passenger in the car, Ashley Jarvis, was not injured.
Landrith and Fontaine were taken to Mt. Carmel Regional Medical Center for their injuries.
Vance sustained minor facial injuries. A 9-year-old juvenile passenger in her car was not injured.
After the investigation, both drivers, Schenk and Vance, were believed to be under the influence of alcohol and were taken to Mt. Carmel for chemical testing to determine blood alcohol concentration levels.
Charges are pending after the chemical test results are returned. The accident is still under investigation by the Pittsburg Police Department.
