Community Health Center of Southeast Kansas will offer flu shots from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. today at its 3011 N. Michigan location.

No appointment is needed. Cost for the vaccination will be $15. Medicare and Medicaid will be accepted.
Children under 18 who do not have insurance coverage may also receive the vaccination at no cost.

Everyone who is at least 6 months of age should get a flu vaccination this season, according to the Centers for Disease Control. This is especially important for those who are at high risk of developing serious complications. Higher risk groups include people with certain medical conditions such as asthma, diabetes and chronic lung disease, pregnant women and those 65 and older, along with people who live with or care for others who are at high risk for developing serious complications.

The flu season in the United States can begin as early as October or as late as May. It takes about two weeks after vaccination for antibodies to develop in the body and provide protection against influenza, and therefore CDC recommends that vaccination begin as soon as vaccine becomes available to ensure that as many people as possible are protected before flu season begins.

Flu shots will also be available at CHC/SEK locations in Baxter Springs, Columbus and Coffeyville.
