The Labette County FSA and Wildcat District Extension Offices in Altamont are again hosting the 4th annual Labette Women In Agriculture Conference on Tuesday, February 28, 2012. RSVP’s for the conference lunch are being accepted through Friday, February 24. The conference runs from 9am to 3pm, in Altamont at the First Baptist Church Annex, 400 Wabash Street. There is no cost to attend the conference, which includes lunch and door prizes provided by several Labette County merchants and businesses. Women are welcome to attend all or part of the conference. Please RSVP by contacting kitra.cooper@ks.usda.gov, Labette County FSA, 620-784-5431, or ludwigk@ksu.edu, Labette County Extension Office, 620-784-5337.
The conference is presented in an effort to give women a place to readily obtain information about different aspects of agriculture and rural farm life, as well as an opportunity to meet other women involved in agriculture. We have some new programs scheduled for this year’s conference, but the day will begin with current information from USDA and Extension, followed by the always-popular Q&A session with our State Representative Rich Proehl. New programs include a grain marketing panel with local women farm producers, and a presentation by Char Henton with Kansas Ag Mediation in Manhattan. Jacob Weber, Horticulture Agent with Wildcat District Extension will be there to talk about container gardening; and Georgia Pollard of Labette County will give a program about local bird-watching.
Attendees will also take part in a mini-Leadership Labette session. The conference has been well-received and we hope attendance continues to increase.
