Commerce Bank names Sutton local president; Wilkinson named chairman

Wendell Wilkinson, chairman, Commerce Bank, Pittsburg, announced today the expansion of the senior management team in Pittsburg. Brian Sutton has been named president of Commerce Bank, Pittsburg.

Sutton has more than 23 years of banking experience, with 20 years serving the Pittsburg community.

“I am enthusiastic about leading our team here in Pittsburg,” Sutton said. “Our board, senior management and staff of Commerce Bankers are committed to making Commerce the bank of choice in Southeast Kansas.”  

Sutton is a 1987 graduate of Missouri Southern State University, Joplin, with a bachelor of science degree in finance and economics. He received his MBA from Pittsburg State University. Active in civic and community organizations, he serves on JL Hutchinson Baseball League Board; is a current member of Rotary and a past board member as well as a member of Pittsburg Area Chamber of Commerce. He also is a volunteer for YMCA Youth Programs and PSU Athletic Scholarship Drive.

Wilkinson, recently named chairman of the Pittsburg banks, was formerly president. In his new role, Wilkinson will focus full-time on major business development efforts in commercial banking and money management services. 

“We have one focus,” said Wilkinson, “and that is to be the preferred provider of financial services to families, businesses and institutions in our market. With Brian’s new role, we are increasing our senior management team to ensure we achieve that objective.”
