Pittsburg to host numerous July 4 activities

Pittsburg Parks and Recreation Department will host numerous activities in observance of the Fourth of July.

Cute Baby Contest
Cute Baby Contest will be held at 9 a.m. in Lincoln Center on Friday. Registration will be from 8 to 8:45 a.m. Age groups for the contest are 6 to 12 months, 12 to 24 months and 24 to 36 months. Boys and girls will compete separately.
Fee will be $1 per child. Pre-registration is encouraged. Those needing information may call the Parks and Recreation office at 231-8310.

Karaoke contest
Karaoke contest will be held in conjunction with 96.9 the KOW and KKOW 860 AM. Auditions for the contest will be held from 9 a.. to noon Friday at the Lincoln Park Band Dome. Finalists will be announced at 1 p.m., and will compete for $1,000 in prizes at 8 p.m.

Dog show
Fourth of July Dog Show will be held at 2 p.m. in Lincoln Center. Registration will begin at 1 p.m. Each dog may enter in three categories for best costume, best fur coat, best trick and longest sit-stay. Prizes and ribbons will be awarded to the top three dogs in each category.
Entry fee will be $1 per dog. Anyone needing information may call 231-8310.

Firecracker 5K
cross country
Firecracker 5K Cross Country Run will begin at 7:30 a.m. Friday at the Four Oaks Golf Course. Medals will be awarded for first, second and third place, and the first 60 participants to register will receive T-shirts.
Entry fees prior to race day will be $12, or $15 on Friday. Anyone needing information may call 231-8310.

Fishing derby
Annual Fourth of July fishing derby will be held from 8 to 10:30 a.m. by the tennis courts at Lincoln Park. Participants should bring their own bait, pole and chair. Fee will be $2 for adults and $1 for children under 16.
Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place for the most fish and largest fish in each division. Sponsor will be John’s Sports Center. Anyone needing information may call 231-8310.

Bocce tournament
Youth bocce tournament for those 14 and younger will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in Lincoln Park. Registration will be at 9:30 a.m. This will be a single elimination tournament with prizes for first and second place teams. Fee will be $2 per team.
Adult bocce team will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Lincoln Park, with registration at 12:30 p.m. This will be a single elimination tournament with prizes for first and second place teams. Fee will be $2 per team. Anyone needing information may call 231-8310.

Horseshoe tournament
Horseshoe tournament will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Four Oaks Horseshoe Pits. Registration will be from 9 to 9:50 a.m. Trophies will be awarded to the first, second and third place finishers in each division.

Tennis tournament
Tennis tournament will be held at 8:30 a.m. July 12 at the Jack Johnson Tennis Complex. Fee will be $9 per person per event until July 7, and $12 per person per event after that date. Each player must furnish one can of new balls per event.
